Have you ever wondered which park Chica and her Sprout Co-Hosts from “The Sunny Side Up Show” went to for their latest promotional video? HERE is a video so you know which one I am talking about (Just a warning: I videotaped it off my TV, so it’s not the best quality!). It’s the Marlton Playground at Evesham Memorial park also known as the Memorial Sports Complex. Click HERE for driving directions!

The entrance to the park (if you are driving) is to the left of the library (on new Road and Tuckerton). You will have to drive down a path inside the sports complex area in order to get there. Parking can easily be found behind the playground. I tried to get to it from the other side first but I had to turn around…so, save yourself that trip!

Right next to the parking lot are public bathrooms. Unfortunately, the bathrooms were out of order and therefore I won’t be able to give you an opinion on them. Also, I am not sure if that is generally the case, or if they are just open for special events and games etc.
There are also a few sets of benches and tables for your snack times and picnics.

And then you finally enter another beautiful playground… It’s a little older (year 1999) wooden playground but it is in very good condition and you can tell that they definitely keep up with it nicely. The playground was very clean, the trashcans were emptied, and I didn’t see any broken play-sets or fencing. There were a few toys in the sandbox that some people must have left behind. A couple of the buckets were broken… hence I suggest to bring along some of your own toys, buckets and shovels for the sandbox if your kids like to play in them.

There are plenty of things for the kids to do: 2 sets of swings (one for the older, one for the younger group of kids), slides, sandbox, climbing opportunities and monkey bars, built in musical instrument, tic tac toe, and the beautiful wooden play-set which is almost like a little labyrinth in itself. I am also fond of the rubber “track” floor they have to “absorb” little falls. There are various single benches in there for moms and dads to sit!

In addition to the playground, there are plenty of green fields to run around in! So bring some extra toys, balls, and have some fun…

My only complaint about this playground is that there is no separation between toddler area and older kids. It therefore is not the easiest park to watch 2 little ones as it has so much going on. Thankfully, it wasn’t too crowded, so noone got knocked over…

Now you know where Chica parties… so, let’s go and have fun!

Fee: FREE
Eating Area: Picnic Tables
Public Bathroom: Yes. No changing tables
Pros: Fenced in. Toddler area, big kid area, picnic tables, adjacent tennis and basketball courts, as well as baseball fields
Cons: Shaded areas only from trees,.. I’d say make sure to bring sunblock in the summer! Other than that the playground is very new and everything is in great working condition!
Address: Frank Fullerton Memorial Park, Corner of Linden and Zelley Ave, Moorestown-Lenola, NJ

Last weekend I took my kids to the newly renovated Zelley Playground at Fullerton Park in Moorestown, NJ. The park can be easily found off 3rd Street on the corner of Zelley Ave and Linden. It is a gorgeous area surrounded by beautiful houses and lots of greeneries. Needless to say, Moorestown is a really cute town itself.

When we drove up, I could hear the awws and ohhhs coming from my two backseat drivers. Look, Mommy, look! They were absolutely mesmerized by the beautiful castle. I had a great feeling about it…

I was glad to find easy parking on the street next to it (I always hope for that as I really dislike taking two toddlers out off the car on a busy road). On the way to the fenced in playground, we walked by a public bathroom. The restroom looked pretty clean, much better than a porta potty. I didn’t see a changing table inside but I am sure that this is not a deal breaker ;)

Then we entered the playground walking towards an amazing castle. There are so many things to do, it was hard to decide where to start. The playground is split in four sections, three inside the fenced in area (eating (picnic tables), bigger kids (castle), and toddler play), and one outside (park and courts) :

  • First, the eating area consists of a few picnic tables which can be found right behind the toddler playground. We went on a hot day and I noticed that there wasn’t much shade (only from a few trees). I’d say make sure to bring sun block in the summer.
  • Second, to the left of the entrance, there is a little toddler area for kids under 5 with a train, a bridge, a slide, and a swingset (with the safety buckets to put your child in).
  •  The third and largest area, is for older kids with a bigger swingset including a regular swing, a “throne” (a big red chair swing), and a tire swing. There are various balancing and monkey bars, bridges, ladders, and of course the beautiful castle with slides, more ladders, and other fun things! Even though my kids are only 17 months and 28 months, they (of course) loved climbing around in the big castle too.
  • Lastly, the fourth area is outside the fenced in playground. There is a big field to run around in as well as a baseball field and basketball and tennis courts.

All in all, this park is gorgeous, well maintained, new, clean and perfect for moms with kids in different age groups. There sure are plenty of things to discover!

Hope you will get to explore it too!

Fee: FREE
Eating Area: There are some tables closer to the pond but if you like a have a snack next to the playground, I suggest you bring a blanket for a picnic. There are plenty of large trees to sit under.
Public Bathroom: No, but here is usually a Porta Potty nearby.
Pros: not much traffic, plenty of fields to run around in, playground for different age groups.
Cons: Even though the playground is fairly new, there are some broken elements such as the fence around the toddler area.
Address: Knight Park, Collingswood, NJ 08108. The park is located off of Collings Ave between Haddon Ave and White Horse Pike (Route 30).

I am starting a new section for all our local Moms. My two boys and I love the outdoors and activities and we are definitely very adventurous. So, I had the idea to share pictures and comments with you about the places we go. I am trying to do as many budget friendly local activities as possible. My boys have a LOT of energy… they crawl up the walls when they have to stay inside for a whole morning. So, here’s my very first review of Knights Park in Collingswood, NJ. The park is only a short walk or bike ride away (yes, we have a bike trailer for my boys… I will have to show you a picture. It’s too cute to see them with their little helmets on! We get tons of smiles when we go places with it! They love it!)

Knight Park is over 60 acres of public park given to the Trustees of Knight Park in 1893 by the family of Edward C. Knight. Collingswood public schools, the Little League, soccer and other sports use the park. The Borough also uses the park for many of its recreational activities including the Knight Park Concert Series and the Tuesday and Thursday Movies in Knight Park. Most importantly the park is used by the families of Collingswood for daily activities such as walking the dog, jogging, playing with their children and other activities that greatly improve the quality of daily life. It’s a gorgeous park. I have to tell you, I used to get so confused in the beginning… when you would look at the park from a bird view, you can see that the park is shaped like a triangle. For some reason, for the longest time, I thought it was square and it kept messing with my sense for direction. It was too funny…

Anyway, pretty much in the middle of the park, you can find the Knight themed playground. I love the fact that the playground is far from a high traffic area. You can walk, bike or drive there. However, you can only drive up to a certain point (approx 150 to 200 feet away from the play area).

The playground is fairly new and has two sections, one for little kids and toddlers and one for older ones. This definitely makes it easy for parents with kids in different age groups. In general the playground is in pretty good shape. There are three different sets of swings for kids all ages, three different slides, a bridge, tubes to crawl through, seesaw, some climbing toys, steps,  sliders, monkey bar ladders, etc
More recently some of the moms (including me, ha) started complaining about some of the toys that started to look a little (ab)used, some loose screws on the fence, missing pieces, etc. But I am super glad to announce that as of this morning I saw a lot of improvement. I am very happy that the town is stepping in and replacing some of the play elements. I just saw a new tent over top of the baby and toddler area and they finally replaced the bars on the horse seesaw. Yeah! My kids love that one and they were so disappointed for a while that the bar was missing. There is also a car wash that sprays water mist. The kids go crazy about that feature but unfortunately it hasn’t been working yet this summer. I assume there is a burst pipe somewhere. I have already seen guys out there that came out to look at it, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that they are on it to repair that too. It’s fun in the summer and it keeps you cool. I also saw two new street lights they just put in this week. So, there should be better lights all around. I think they were put in for the police to keep a better eye on night activities. I know that teenagers hang around there a lot when it gets darker out.

In summary, this is one of our favorite play grounds and I am glad to live so close. My kids get super excited when get closer to the park entrance and they start wiggling and giggling and shouting yeah! So I know they love it too!

We hope you come visit and like it too!

Oh, the cheap places we go!

by admin on June 29, 2011

As I have mentioned in an earlier post today, my plan is to start reviewing kid friendly places in the NJ, PA area. My reviews will range from parks, to restaurants, to places we like to go to get some energy out…

The moment that sparked this idea, was when I was reading the Dr. Seuss book: Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” to my boys. So, I am going to call these segments: “Oh, the cheap places we go!”. I have added a banner button for easy access to the right-hand-side panel. Just click on the banner and all related posts will show up!

Oh, and I LOVE feedback. Please email me (through the contact page) about your ideas, places I need to check out, etc. Also, anyone who is interested in adding their opinion, PLEASE do so in the comment section of the related post or on Facebook. I also encourage you to submit any guest posts… the more information we can provide for all moms out there, the better.

Here are the lines that sparked the idea:

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

by Dr. Seuss

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own.  And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
