Sassy Tip Thursday

I always struggled keeping my lampshades clean before I discovered this method. You can keep your fabric lampshades dust-free with a simple adhesive lint roller. Just hold the shade steady and roll it over the exterior.

Do you remember the law change of overdraft fees last year? Basically what it means is that banks can’t charge you overdraft fees anymore unless you opt-in. Prior to that, banks could automatically enroll you in the service. I definitely won’t opt-in … I rather take a decline for my 99c coffee than ending up having to spend an additional $30. Don’t you?

Anyway, I just saw yesterday on the news that banks are now charging up to $5 ATM fees for customers that don’t have an account with them to make up for the loss. Hence, I just wanted to put that out there and “warn” you guys to avoid any ATMs that don’t belong to your banks! I recently read it but can’t remember the source that if you have to use another bank’s ATM that you should choose a different language and possibly won’t get charged a FEE. I will definitely try that next time I’ll get into a bind. Something to think about!

Sassy Tip Thursday #6: zip loc bags

by admin on March 17, 2011

I use zip loc bags all the time. I think they are so convenient and the use is almost unlimited. Here are just some ways I use them:

  • I use them to marinate meat without leaving a mess. Just add the meat and your favorite marinate, close and shake the bag, and store it in fridge overnight!
  • I also store homemade soup in the freezer. Just lay the bags flat. you can later even stack them.
  • I snip off a tiny corner and use them as a pastry bag.
  • I fill a bag with graham crackers or vanilla wafers, then punch it or roll a rolling pin over it to break them up for a pie crust.
  • I also save my favorite recipes I don’t want to get too messy in a bag  for a see-through spatter guard.
  • Of course, they always come along on our walks, with snacks for the kids.
  • I use them to remove chewing gum or candle wax. Filled bags with with ice cubes and gently rub the gum or wax until it hardens for easy removal.
  • I fill them with ice and use them on my knees after a long run.
  • I store all the batteries or other nicknacks we have in one bag and store it high, so the kids can’t get to it.
  • I use them when I travel. For some reason I have bad luck with shampoo etc and this will at least keep the mess in one place.

Do you have any other uses for your zip locs? Please share and leave a comment below!

Sassy Tip Thursday #5: wet dog smell

by admin on March 10, 2011

My Golden Retriever Miles gets this treatment every so often. I bet you agree that a wet dog doesn’t smell that great even if freshly cleaned. So, here’s what I do to get rid of his wet dog smell once he is almost dry: I rub him down with a dryer sheet!!! It takes 5 seconds and it really makes him smell fresh and clean… it’s so cute, he always looks like he is showing off afterwards too.
